August 2020 Derecho Disaster Assistance
Please read the following information carefully. Benefit eligibility varies by county.
For Scott, Clinton, and Cedar County Residents:
Please apply for federal Individual Assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) by calling 1-800-621-3362 or by visiting disasterassistance.gov. You can apply 24 hours a day, seven days a week. When you apply by phone or online, you’ll be walked through the kinds of assistance that are available and what you need to do to apply.
If you have already applied for assistance through the Iowa Department of Human Services but have not yet been determined eligible, your application will be denied, and you will need to apply for federal FEMA assistance.
A disaster can turn your life upside down. When this happens, we can provide case management to help you find resources and make a plan. We deliver this service whenever Iowa’s Governor declares your county a disaster area. There are no income limits for case management. Households in Cedar, Clinton, Muscatine, and Scott Counties can receive case management services from Community Action of Eastern Iowa. Case management does not include financial assistance.
Please use the chat window if you have questions or need assistance.
