Child Care Consultant
Child Care Resource and Referral of Southeast Iowa, a program of Community Action of Eastern Iowa, is seeking additional Child Care Consultants to add to our team. The primary role of the Child Care Consultant is to provide support, consultation, coaching, and technical assistance to child care centers and in-home child care programs.
Open positions will provide services to a caseload of providers located in Southeast Iowa. This includes providers located primarily in the following counties and surrounding areas:
- Des Moines, Johnson, Linn, Muscatine and/or Scott Counties
Responsibilities include:
- Helping providers to follow Iowa HHS regulations to implement appropriate early care and education practices for children
- Encouraging and supporting providers to participate in the Iowa Quality 4 Kids (IQ4K)
- Working with the provider to assess program strengths and needs
- Helping the provider plan and carry out program improvements
- Assisting the provider to develop and implement a professional development plan
A successful Child Care Consultant candidate will have:
- Effective interpersonal skills for working with child care providers, child care program administrators, co-workers and the general public
- Knowledge of high quality early child care and education practices
- Knowledge of typical and atypical early childhood development
- Office organizational skills with attention to detail and understanding of common computer applications
- Effective skills in conflict resolution and problem solving

- Self Motivating and able to manage work independently
Required Education for Child Care Consultant:
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education with an Endorsement, or a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or Social Work or Child and Family Services.

Child Care Resource & Referral (CCR&R) of Southeast Iowa is part of a statewide network to support quality care throughout the state of Iowa. CCR&R provides child care providers with training, technical assistance, and resources that support regulatory compliance and continuous quality improvement. The program also contributes to recruitment and retention by helping providers start new programs, strengthen business practices, and sustain operations over time. Through these efforts, along with working with area employers and businesses, CCR&R increases access to high-quality child care options for Iowa children and families.
Community Action of Eastern Iowa (CAEI) is a nonprofit agency that works to empower individuals and families to overcome barriers and achieve lasting self-sufficiency. The organization delivers a broad range of services—such as Head Start and Early Head Start, energy assistance, weatherization, food and family development programs, and child care supports—that address both immediate needs and long-term stability.
