Child Care Consultant
The primary role of the Child Care Consultant is to provide support, consultation and technical
assistance to child care centers and in-home child care programs. Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education with an Endorsement, or a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or Social Work or Child and Family Services.
Responsibilities include:
- Helping providers to follow Iowa HHS regulations to implement appropriate early care and
education practices for children - Encouraging and supporting providers to participate in the Iowa Quality 4 Kids (IQ4K)
- Working with the provider to assess program strengths and needs
- Helping the provider plan and carry out program improvements
- Assisting the provider to develop and implement a professional development plan
A successful Child Care Consultant candidate will have:
- Effective interpersonal skills for working with child care providers, child care program
administrators, co-workers and the general public - Knowledge of high quality early child care and education practices
- Knowledge of typical and atypical early childhood development
- Office organizational skills with attention to detail and understanding of common computer
applications - Effective skills in conflict resolution and problem solving
- Effective skills to foster the professional development of others
- Commitment to collaborating in a team environment
- Commitment to respecting cultural and ethnic diversity
- Self Motivating and able to manage work independently
